Murtaza completed his Bachelors degree at UTM in chemistry specialist and math minor. He conducted his MSc research synthesizing nucleoside analogues as potential anti-cancer and anti-viral agents at York University under the supervision of Dr. Lee-Ruff.  Currently, his research mainly involves the synthesis of potent and selective HDAC inhibitors as potential chemotherapeutic agents.
